RANDWICK HERITAGE STUDY:
Very good two-storey turn-of-the-century house, probably about 1895. Terrace style.

  • Gabled slate roof with side parapets.
  • Symmetrical design with bays on each side at both levels.
  • Roughcast gablets above each.
  • Outstanding transitional verandah and balcony.
  • Combines Victorian cast iron posts and lacework with Edwardian style spindle valence to verandah and wrought iron balcony balustrade.
  • Iron lace patterns are unusual and outstanding.
  • Arched access for main door.
  • Almost intact down to original style timber fence.
  • Shutters to French doors probably later addition.

Significance:

  • Fine example of transitional late Victorian/early Federation style. Almost intact down to original style fence.

c. 1908 “Glendhu”, federation cottage, simple Queen Anne style.

  • Elegant design for narrow frontage, with ‘front’ door at side.
  • Bullnosed verandah, roof on turned timber posts, double hung windows,
  • French doors with side lights and skylights,
  • original patterned slate roof.
